Today I upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate RTM (Ready To Manufacture). Heh, heh, heh... yes, I did it again... I know, I know, I'm just a sucker for technology. Shoot me!
I got the CD and activation key early in the morning. I did my back ups and proceeded with the installation. I chose a clean installation, the best option. I was so excited that I actually forgot to back up some important stuff. This is something I never learn. Oh well.... thankfully, I can live with the loss. Anyway, back to the installation. It took 30 minutes flat for the installation!! The fastest ever for me. It booted in 30 seconds... fast... it took my Vista over 2 minutes. Here's a couple of screenshots.

The next time I am in Low Yat, I am going to get myself a piece of 2GB RAM. I want to push my RAM up to 4GB. I had 4GB when I installed Windows Vista but I had the 32-bit version which only recognises up to 3GB of RAM so I gave 1GB away. Now I am running 64-bit so I will push it to the max.
Windows 7 is really fun. It is exactly what Windows Vista should have been but wasn't. My notebook is almost 2 years old now and I was just contemplating asking my IT guy to get me a new notebook since we do have a policy that allows people at my level to get a new machine every 2 years. But with Windows 7 and with 4GB of RAM, I think I'm good for another year.
Windows 7 has some really cool wallpapers and themes and the wallpaper can be set to change automatically at an interval of your choice. This was only possible with a 3rd party application previously. The setback with the pre-installed themes is that it only has 6 wallpapers each. I managed to find and download 120 of Windows 7 wallpapers and make a theme of my own. I managed to install all my previous applications with no problems.
Should you change to Windows 7? If you can afford it, yes... don't even think about it. Just get it.
